Biography

 

Sanger Rainsford was born and raised in a little eye-blink town in mid-Missouri. Country living fostered a love of hunting and a love of country early in his life. Upon graduating from high school, however, the all-American country boy wished to expand his horizons. Like many youth at the time, he immediately signed on with the military. It was here that the world grew in size for him. Ten years in the service and an honorable discharge later, the then 28-year-old found life in the quiet country too limited for him.

 

Joining several other compatriots and veterans, Rainsford decided to take his honed military and survival skills out into the world. Big game hunting quickly became his new life. With a move from quiet Missouri to the metropolis of New York, the veteran grew increasingly popular among other big game hunters in the world. The port city enabled the then 30-year-old the gateway to exotic experiences ranging from Tibet to the Caribbean. Rainsford quickly became an authority in the practice around the world.

 

A decade later, Rainsford published his own book regarding his experiences and adventures from big game hunting and then moved abroad to gain new stories to tell. At 45, he returned to his home in Missouri to rest before his next excursion into the world of survival of the fittest. His acceptance for the show The Hunted: Predator or Prey six months later marks the beginning of an estrangement with his family and friends. After acceptance to the show, contact between them was vague and distant at best. According to Zaroff, the founder of the show, he vanished mid-production. At this point he is missing but not forgotten.
